California Beach Style

We are often asked how to create the oh-so-chic California beach look. Since this design style is truly the epitome of resort living everyday, we couldn't resist compiling our essential elements for the casual, layered and collected Cali coastal look. White Walls White walls seem to be the most consistent design element of the California vibe. It is probably because everything looks great against it and it allows colors and textures to be the stars of the space. It's no wonder white is the color of the year. This very basic color can get a bit complicated, though. Remember every white has an undertone and can quickly turn grey, pink or green if the correct white is not chosen for the space. Make sure to paint large swatches on your wall to evaluate the color throughout the day and evening to determine your favorite for your space.

Below are some of our favorite tried and true Benjamin Moore whites: Mixing Patterns The California look comes across as collected and casual. The best way to achieve this is to mix patterns in the room's textiles. Pillows and rugs are layered and colored palettes are of unexpected combinations. Keep the silhouettes simple and the coloring bright. California design is no place for matching, folks!

Rattan The love affair with rattan is as strong as ever in Cali design. Rattan looks right at home mixed in with metals, woods, painted finishes and glass finishes. It adds warmth to the simplistic lines of California and no matter what the design aesthetic is, we honestly think rattan is the perfect accent. When recreating the California beach style use items you love, mix it up and layer simplistic lines! Create a California beach vibe in your home with our picks: SaveSave
